Supporting Indigenous Communities

Moving ideas into action.

Unify Partners works alongside Indigenous Communities and aligned organizations to turn priorities, knowledge, and relationships into projects that can move forward.

We connect the right people and stay involved in the work, from early planning through to implementation.

OUR ROLE

Between Vision and Reality

Unify Partners operates in the space between community priorities, funding systems, and delivery realities. We are not a proponent, developer, or funder. We are a long-term partner that helps bring order, alignment, and follow-through to complex initiatives.

Clarify what matters

We listen and learn, taking time to understand community priorities, past efforts, and what's possible.

Design pathways

We design pathways that align with real funding opportunities and capacity realities.

Curate partnerships

We can introduce strategic partners to help move Nation‑Led projects forward

Stay involved

We stay involved beyond feasibility so work can continue through implementation.

WHO WE bring together

Different strengths, shared goals

We work with Indigenous Nations and the partners who stand beside them. Each brings different strengths to shared goals.

Indigenous Leadership

Working alongside Nations to support community priorities, strengthen decision‑making, and move projects forward in a Nation‑led way.

Funders

Collaborating with funders to design better programs and funding pathways. We help fill gaps and move high‑priority work forward when traditional funding falls short.

Innovation Partners

Long‑term collaboration with Nations and aligned organizations to co‑develop and deliver practical work over time, from early planning through implementation and learning.

OUR PROCESS

How we work

Every Nation and partnership is different, but our approach is consistent. We listen first, co‑design the path forward, then help put the pieces in place to bring projects to life.

1

Listen and Learn

Together we review existing plans and studies, map current projects, and hear from leadership, staff, and community members. The goal is a shared picture of priorities, opportunities, and constraints.

This can include:

Conversations with leadership, staff, and community members

A scan of existing studies, plans, and funding

Strategic and economic development studies

Clear framing of options, risks, and trade-offs

2

Plan and Build Readiness

Once priorities are clear, we work with you to build a practical roadmap that cover funding strategies, project concepts, scope, phases, and governance.

This can include:

Feasibility studies that are ready for action

Holistic economic development strategies

Funding roadmaps across programs and phases

Support for EDOs and staff to coordinate next steps

Training, pathways, and employment strategies

3

Take Action and Grow

When a Nation is ready to move, we help match the right partners, tools, and technologies, and support early implementation. We focus on pilots that can scale, documentation of outcomes, and pathways to long-term ownership.

This can include:

Support for grant applications and project proposals

Matchmaking with technology, industry, and training partners

Project management support

Case studies and documentation to help future funding

Some ways to start

Practical starting points

Communities often come to us with a question, an idea, or a challenge they are trying to move forward. Sometimes it is a clean energy opportunity. Sometimes it is waste management, employment pathways, stewardship initiatives, or infrastructure planning.
The areas below are common places where communities begin the conversation. Each represents a practical entry point for exploring opportunities, coordinating partners, and developing projects that align with community priorities.

Clean Energy Pathways

Moving from interest in clean energy to viable community projects. We work with Nations to understand priorities, assess realistic technology options, identify funding pathways, and connect trusted partners so leadership can make informed decisions and move projects forward.

Waste and Circular Materials

A practical look at what waste is costing your community and where there may be opportunities to reduce costs, divert materials, and create local jobs. We review current systems, identify realistic diversion pathways, and connect communities with partners and funding to move initiatives forward.

Workforce and Employment Pathways

Strengthening the connection between community members and real employment opportunities. We help map pathways that link training, employers, and emerging projects so communities can build long-term employment and workforce capacity.

Heritage Stewardship

Supporting Nations in protecting and stewarding culturally significant places and knowledge. We work alongside communities to strengthen stewardship systems, organize research and documentation, and support initiatives shaped by community priorities and knowledge holders.

Innovation and Technology Partnerships

Helping communities explore new technologies carefully and ensure they align with local priorities. We help review proposals, identify trusted partners, and coordinate pilot or demonstration projects where emerging solutions may support community goals.

Community Opportunity Pathways

Helping communities identify and move forward on the opportunities that matter most. We work alongside leadership to review existing plans and ideas, explore potential projects, and map practical next steps toward implementation.

OUR APPROACH

Holistic economic development in practice

Many Nations are working on several priorities at once: energy security, housing, food, broadband, health services, land use, and local jobs. These issues are connected. Progress in one area often depends on action in another.
Our work takes a holistic view. Instead of treating each project as a separate file, we look at how energy, housing, food, broadband, workforce, and governance fit together in a practical way for that Nation.

Waste-to-Value

What if waste wasn’t just a problem but a solution? Communities are facing growing waste management challenges, from landfill overflow to costly removal logistics. Unify works with Nations to explore how waste can be converted into valuable products, such as energy, compost, fuel, or even building materials. Through ClimateDoor, we introduce cutting-edge circular technologies that can be adapted to remote and rural settings, helping communities transform today’s burdens into tomorrow’s opportunities.

Indigenous communities across the country are moving forward to develop their communities and nations in a just manner. Unify Partners have helped us to take our vision and share it with the rest of the country. As Canadians and treaty people, we all deserve the best of our land and what the people can produce. Unify has been with us from the beginning and have work with us to make it a reality.

The knowledge and insight they shared with Cleantech sector has moved our company into a space where we can contribute to this development in our communities. I would definitely recommend Unify as a place to start articulating your vision and sharing with them a path to make your dreams and aspirations come to fruition.

Our Network

We work, partner, and collaborate across Canada with a large network of communities, aligned organizations and funders, and innovation partners.

Our values

Grounded in respect, focused on action

Our work is guided by the understanding that Indigenous Peoples are rights‑holders on their territories, with their own laws, governance, and decision‑making processes.

In practice, this means we:

Follow the direction of Nations and work under their guidance

Respect data sovereignty, local protocols, and community processes

Aim for transparency, trust, and long‑term relationships

Align with TRC Calls to Action and UNDRIP

Focus on building local capacity, not dependency
