Stan Knight is a proud member of Opaskwayak Cree Nation in northern Manitoba, where growing up he saw firsthand the impact of substandard housing in Indigenous communities. His career has taken him through roles as an RCMP officer, building supply manager, insurance adjuster and certified home inspector, and into housing leadership with First Nations, including as Housing Manager for Tla'amin Nation, Housing Administrator with Nisga'a Lisims Government and Project Manager with the Scw'exmx Tribal Council. In 2018 he founded Zachary Knight Enterprises, whose flagship program, Inspector in a Box, trains community members as certified inspectors so Nations can complete their own inspections, cost estimates, energy retrofit planning and funding applications. The program is also offered as a franchise for Indigenous entrepreneurs. Stan co-founded the Knight Myers Memorial Foundation, which supports Indigenous learners and entrepreneurs through scholarships, a business incubator and interest-free loans. He serves on the Indigenous Clean Energy Advisory Council and on the Program Advisory Council for an energy program run by BC Hydro, FortisBC and the BC Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation. At Unify, he advises on Indigenous housing and energy and helps connect Nations with Unify's services and projects.
