Unify worked alongside the Mowachaht/Muchalaht economic development team to explore and expand ocean-based economic opportunities near Gold River. The work focused on opportunities in seaweed and shellfish, shaped by community priorities around sustainable use of marine resources and long-term economic development.

Through engagement with leadership and partners, we supported the assessment of viable opportunities and helped identify where capacity and partnerships would be needed to move projects forward. This included economic analysis and a targeted funding strategy to support early-stage development.

The approach emphasized sustainable practices, community control, and alignment with Indigenous knowledge and governance. The focus was on identifying opportunities that could be developed responsibly and maintained over time.

This work provides a foundation for growing ocean-based industries that support local employment, attract investment, and strengthen community well-being–while respecting the surrounding ecosystem.
